  • A rare and tall pair from Ajasse, in the Igbomina tribe territory

    This is a beautiful and higher than normal pair of Ibeji, both stands at 31 cm, and have very particular characteristics. The head is bigger than normal, with big eyes, rhomboidal and divided in half. The nose is pentagonal and flat. The open mouth is straight and with prominent teeth missing the central incisors. This is a key particular of all the Ibeji carved in Ajasse. The coiffure consists of braids that are gathered up and is colored with blue Reckitt stain. The bodies of both statuettes are still almost completely covered with reddish camwood. The legs are very short and the feet are separated with a flat internal side, mounted on heavy metal bases.  Both statuettes gave glass beads necklaces and coconut shells around the waist and wrists. A splendid showpiece for every African Art collectors.
