Pair of Ibeji Females Igbo Ora
Original text by Fausto Polo, 2015, translated to English from Italian
A superb pair of females from an old, renowned workshop in the village of Igbo Ora, situated in Ibarapa tribe territory
This is an exceptionally well-carved pair, with a remarkable care in the crafting of all the details, such as the scarification marks on the face and on the bodies of both statuettes. They feature a high degree of artistic personalization.
Both Ibeji have an attractive natural patina, crested hairstyles with traces of indigo powder, and beaded blue necklaces around the neck.
This beautiful pair of Ibeji is published in my book “Encyclopedia of the Ibeji”, Plate Number 150.
