Original text by Fausto Polo, 2013, translated to English from Italian
An antique and rare pair of males from Egbe, located in the Yagba tribe territory.
The Ibeji from Egbe have a place in all the most important Yoruba collections, but this pair is a rare type, with a thin body and the genitals in the middle the hands, which cross the body horizontally at the level of the hips. This is a very uncommon and collectible pair.
The hairstyle shows naturally occuring age, with traces of blue Reckitt's blue, a stain brough to the region in the early 20th century. One ibeji features an indigenous repair, a further testament to the value placed o the figures. Both Ibeji wear two colorful beaded necklaces and their body is covered with a beauitful old brown/red camwood patina.Ibeji Art offers an unconditional guarantee of authenticity on the Ibeji sold because they are always accompanied by the Expertise of Fausto or Mauro Polo.
