Single Female Imala

$3,800.00Price
  • A rare and important female from Imala, in the Egbado tribe territory

This stunning and rare Ibeji was was made by a very skilled carver. An example of his skills is the  elaborate and beautiful coiffure with a high central crest, also covered with ample remains of light-blue indigo powder. The hands are joined to the hip with the fingers bent at an angle of about 45 dregres, the feet are very short, and the eyes are bordered all around with bulging upper lids. The Ibeji is enriched with two antique strands of red beads around the neck and with multicolor beads around the wrists. Unfortunately the name of this carver is not known, but he is the same hand who carved the almost identical  Ibeji published in photo 188 of the "Encyclopedia of the Ibeji".
