Single Ibeji Female Ede by Abogunde
Original text by Fausto Polo, 2014, translated to English from Italian
An antique Ibeji from the village of Ede, in the Oyo tribe territory.
This Ibeji was carved by Abogunde, who is well known and appreciated for his distinctive style.
The statuette shows an artistic hair style, consisting of plaits, three outside and one central, rising from the top of the head, with indigo powder traces. The fourth plait, in the back of the head, is missing.
The ibeji has a wonderful dark red/brown patina with evident traces of red camwood.
Abogunde's artwork is highly valued and coveted by collectors.
