An ancient and rare Ibeji from the village of Igbo Ora, Ibarapa tribe.
It is a very well carved ibeji, with an excellent degree of personalization, showing all the sculptural features typical of its area of origin. The crested hairstyle is covered with indigo powder, natural colouring of vegetal origin, which was, just like camwood patina, an important form of tribute and devotion by the family towards its own ibeji.
The statuette wears many old tribal ornaments, as beaded belt, necklace and armlets, in addition to a peculiar carved apron knotted at the back.
This ibeji, belonging to a rare typology, has a particular and ancient natural dark red brown patina, much appreciated by the collectors. Mauro Polo
