Pair of Obgomosho Males

$2,500.00Price
  • A very fine, pair of Ibeji figures from a workshop in Ogbomosho, located in the Oyo tribal territory. The figures display the classic Ogbomosho stylistic trait of a broad, balanced face where the nose and mouth share the same width. Dated to the early 20th century, the faces exhibit significant wear—the result of daily caresses and ritual anointing by the mother, confirming their long and active history as spiritual conduits. They stand on unusually tall, cylindrical bases and have some old ornaments.

Provenance: From the Collection of Helen Cunningham and Ted Newbold, Philadelphia, PA.
