Single Female Ilorin
This fine and old female originated from the Ilorin area of the Oyo Yoruba territory. The figure is distinguished by a beautiful and rich honey color patina, a direct testament to years of continuous ritual care and anointing by the grieving family The distinctive, particular hairstyle retains ample signs of original indigo pigment, a traditional sign of wealth and status. The face is marked by detailed facial scarification, for clan identification, and the eyes are delineated with carved borders, characteristic of the northern Oyo style. The cylindrical base features criss-crossing incisions, a recognizable regional motif often found on figures from the Ilorin and Shaki workshops.
