  • This Ibeji was most likely carved by an unknown carver in a workshop in Ilorin, in the Oyo tribal region. Her face is lighter than the rest of the body due to frequent maternal washings, and the hairstyle is tall and well carved. One of the stands out of this Ibeji is the richness of its ornaments, a testimony to the wealth of the family who commissioned it. In addition to several strands of coconut disks and other beaded ornaments, it has two earrings dangling from its ears. Camwood patina is still present on vast parts of the body.

Provenance: Dr Noble and Jean Endicott, New York
